Up Next is an Antique M-1888 U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Chambered in .45-70, Serial # 507936, In Excellent Very Clean Condition, Euipped WIth a Leather Sling, Hooded Front Sight, and Bayonet/Cleaning Rod Combo, Beautiful Cartouche Markings Showing 1890. The US M1888 Rifle replaced the socket bayonet with a rod bayonet that doubled as a cleaning rod. The US ARMY found little use for bayonets in combat until WWI.
