M17, Early style .50 caliber ammunition chest. US GI- Browning Machine Gun Ammo Can. WW2 US M17 50 Caliber Ammo Chest was first introduced in march of 1942, made of steel to help conserve the aluminum, then replaced by the M2 ammo box because the M17 was not designed to be mounted on the Browning machine Gun but rather sat on the ground to be manually feeding the ammo into the machine gun, not as pratical as hoped. comes with the Canvas handle, riveted sides measures approx 12" across by 6" wide and 8.25" high, one end shows B 16 the other side show 9 3 6 , great collector can does show signs of age, but super cool collectible
