Lot 168:
Up Next We Have a Swiss Schmidt Rubin K31 Carbine (Karabiner 1931) Rifle Chambered in 7.5×55 and in Overall Excellent Surplus Condition, Matching Numbers, Leather Sling, Imported by CAI. More From The Internet Below: The Swiss Schmidt Rubin K31 (Karabiner 1931) is a straight-pull, bolt action rifle chambered in 7.5X55 Swiss, a round which compares closely to the .308 NATO round (7.62?51 NATO.) Military surplus ammunition is frequently loaded with a 174 grain projectile at a bit over 2500 feet per second, though rounds may be loaded from 130 grains (at over 3,000 fps) to 200 grains (2460 fps or more.) Contrasted to the Springfield, Mossin-Nagant, and Mauser K98 rifles which were contemporary to the Schmidt Rubin K31, all of those rifles used a locking system wherein the bolt is manually rotated by the motion of the bolt handle in an ?up and back, forward an down? pattern, whereas the K31 is operated with a straight back and forward motion. This allows faster shooting in combat situations, with a less pronounced arm motion, which the Swiss may have felt was prone to give a soldier?s position away more readily.
