The Kukri is a very old weapon though the earliest we know as material culture of today is from the mid 16th- early 17th century. Gift of the Dying Gurkha, The Lion Head Kukri with the Leather Scabbard. The Lions head Kukri goes back to the Pre-WW2 period, possibly all the way back to the 1930?s and the Indian Army Officers Corps, consisting of a vast majority British Officers. This Kukri appears to be authentic but you review the pictures and make your own determination, this Kukri comes with a blade that measures approx 11.75" in length with an overall length of 16" It is characterised by its forward curving blade that reminds loosely of a crescent moon or the shape of Nepal, comes with the Lion Head Pommel, wood Handle. The dagger itself represents the three worlds: the blade is the heavens, the handle is the earth, the end is the underworld. The blade is considered to be Shiva as well, while the handle is Shakti and the end is Bindu. The khukuri is therefore the ideal sacrificial knife. This Scabbard appears to be made of wood and leather, with a silver band at the top and a silver point at the bottom, the interior has two small dividers for the smaller knives and then room for the Knife Blade, Indeed there is much to learn of this fantastic Knife, the culture brings so much meaning to every day living for the Nepal People. Please refer to pictures and do your research, we could sit here for hours learning so much of this Tool / weapon.
