Gun Collectors Dream Auction 63 Day One
Lot 171:
Up Next We Have a Turkish Model 1893/33 Mauser Chambered in 8MM Mauser, and COmes Equipped With a Bayonet. This rifle underwent conversion in 1933 as did almost all Turkish rifles in the 30’s to standardize on the 8mm Mauser caliber and the M1938 Mauser style of rifle. This rifle was originally in 7.65x53mm Mauser like its predecessor the Model 1890 Mauer (think 1891 Argentine basically). To fit the 8mm Mauser caliber into a shorter small ring receiver, they simply milled a cut in the top of the receiver to accommodate the longer cartridge and either re-bored or re-barreled the rifles.
