The Smith and Wesson Model 49 revolver is for the most part the S&W Model 38 however, with a steel “J” style frame. The Model 49, a member of the “Bodyguard” line of weapons, was introduced in 1957 and fires five .38 Special rounds. While having a unique hump-back shape, the revolver was designed with a mainly internal hammer that can be cocked and fired from within a users pocket without snagging on clothing. Being primarily a defensive weapon, and as the name indicates, it is used mostly by bodyguards or citizens who wish to be casually, and unobtrusively armed.
