Gun Collectors Dream Auction #77 Mixed Guns AUG 16th & 17th
Lot 1182:
Sold for: $425
Description
This is a very early Savage Model 1919 that was manufactured in 1919 or 1920 by the serial number. These early NRA models have the small ejection port with the early type bolt with double firing pins. The 1919 was fitted with an undercut front sight of the same type as proposed by Major John Dooley of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Cartridge Co., for use on the Marines Model 1903 rifles. The rear sight is an excellent design with a very compact aperture and screw-adjustable one minute increments for elevation and windage. That sight assembly resides in a dovetail assembly that is attached to the receiver with two screws. The 1919 action cocked on the closing stroke of the bolt, a feature advertised as providing more positive primary extraction. Comes With One Magazine and Appears in Great Condition.
