Sold for: $475
Description
A Swedish Mauser Model 1896 bolt-action military rifle. The receiver is clearly marked “WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N 1899”, with a serial number “30542” also visible. Partial matching numbers, such as “542”, are present on the bolt handle. The rifle features a full-length wooden stock, blued steel barrel, receiver, and fittings, contrasted by a bright metal bolt. The barrel bears import markings “CAL. ST. ALB VT.” and “M96 SWEDEN 6.5×55”, confirming its Swedish Model 1896 designation and 6.5x55mm caliber. The buttstock incorporates a brass disc inscribed with Swedish terms “STR” (likely *Sträckskott*, meaning ranging shots/trajectory) and “Overslag” (meaning impact point/sight radius) alongside numerical range indicators from “100” to “900”. A “QGB” cartouche is also present on the stock.
Condition report:
Good, consistent with age and military service. The wooden stock exhibits general wear, minor scratches, and handling marks. Metal components show surface patina and bluing wear commensurate with age, particularly on exposed areas. The bolt is bright. Markings are clear and legible.
