Description
An Imperial Japanese Order of the Rising Sun medal, comprising a multi-pointed starburst design with 32 white enamel rays emanating from a central circular red enamel disc. The medal is suspended from a variegated grosgrain ribbon, featuring a central cream stripe bordered by red, via an ornate, enameled suspension device. The suspension device is rendered in green enamel with purple enamel accents, stylized as a Kiri-mon (paulownia crest). The reverse of this green enameled element bears white Japanese characters “勲功章” (Kunkōshō), translating to “Order of Merit.” The ribbon is equipped with a metal hook at the top and a small wire attachment on the reverse. Construction materials include metal and enamel.
Condition report:
Good for its apparent age. Displays minor surface wear to the enamel and metal components, along with evidence of tarnishing and patina. The ribbon shows some creasing and slight discoloration.
