Description
An antique L. Gasser Austrian Model 1870 Marine Pinfire Revolver. the Marine model is much more rarer than the Army model; the wedge that holds the barrel is a feature unique to this model, the barrel block is faceted, instead of being rounded off at the top, the loading gate is hinged at the top vs the bottom This item is constructed predominantly from dark grey metal with checkered wooden grip panels. It features an exposed hammer and a side-loading gate. Visible markings include “L. GASSER PATENT.”on the left side of the frame, alongside the serial number “52387” which is repeated on the frame, barrel lug, and cylinder. The cylinder also bears the marking “RN 52387” and several small, indistinct crowned proof marks.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces exhibit significant pitting, surface corrosion, and loss of finish, indicative of considerable age and use. The wooden grips show wear but appear structurally sound.
