Lot 1099:
Sold for: $140
Description
A WWI U.S. Army Engineer pocket compass by Usanite, dated 1918. This early 20th-century pocket compass features a metallic alloy casing, likely brass, with a swivel bail for attachment. The reverse of the case is engraved with “ENG. DEPT. U.S.A. 1918”. The compass dial, visible through a clear cover, displays cardinal directions (N, S, E, W) and degree markings, alongside the inscriptions “USANITE”, “ROCHESTER N.Y.”, and “PAT. APR 20-1915”.
Condition report:
Heavy tarnishing, scratching, and discoloration to the metallic alloy casing. The clear cover is scuffed and somewhat dirty. Overall condition indicates significant wear, consistent with its apparent age and utilitarian design.
