Description
A BSA Martini Cadet falling-block action rifle, constructed from blued steel and a dark stained wooden stock and fore-end. The right side of the receiver is marked “MADE BY THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. LTD.” and “TRADE MARKS” with a BSA piled arms logo. The left side of the receiver bears the markings “COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA” with serial number “35744”, “N.S.W”, and “1.6.9.20”. The barrel breech is marked “32*20”, indicating a .32-20 caliber, a common conversion from the original .310 Cadet. The left buttstock is carved or stamped with “C.M.F.” (Commonwealth Military Forces), “N.S.W” (New South Wales), and “1.6.9.20” (likely June 1, 1920), along with “8/L/10”.
Condition report:
The rifle is in used condition, showing significant wear commensurate with age and use. There is considerable bluing loss across metal components, with scattered surface corrosion present. The wooden stock and fore-end exhibit numerous dents, scratches, and handling marks.
