Description
An antique American Civil War era percussion lock military rifle-musket, manufactured by Mason of Taunton, Massachusetts, and dated 1863. The lock plate is prominently stamped ‘MASON’ above ‘TAUNTON, MASS’ and the date ‘1863’. The butt plate bears the ‘US’ marking, indicating United States military issue. It features a dark, reddish-brown wooden stock and aged, dark-patinated iron/steel components. A metal ramrod with a brass-colored tip is housed beneath the barrel.
Condition report:
The item displays considerable wear consistent with age and use. The wooden stock shows numerous scratches and dents. The metal components exhibit a dark, oxidized patina with surface pitting and rust. Good antique condition, commensurate with age and military field use.
