Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1203:
Sold for: $700
Description
An antique U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Percussion Rifle Musket. This military rifle features a dark hardwood stock with a full-length fore-end, secured by multiple metal barrel bands. The metal components, including the barrel, percussion lock mechanism with external hammer and nipple, and trigger guard, are made of ferrous metal. A brass-tipped ramrod is present beneath the barrel. Visible markings on the lock plate include an eagle motif above “U.S.”, “SPRINGFIELD”, and the date “1863”.
Condition report:
Heavily used condition, consistent with age and military service. The wooden stock exhibits significant wear, including numerous dents, scratches, and a notable crack on the left side of the fore-end. Metal components display heavy pitting, surface rust, and a dark, worn patina. The mechanism appears complete but functionality is untested and not guaranteed.
