Lot 1293:
Sold for: $675
Description
A German Mauser Model 1871 bolt-action military rifle, dated 1876. The rifle is constructed with a full-length wooden stock and metal components, exhibiting a dark, patinated finish. Key markings on the receiver include “R. Mod. 71” and “1876,” indicating the model and a manufacturing or acceptance date. The serial number “6942 E” is present on both the receiver and bolt, indicating matching numbers. Additional, partially legible script markings are visible on the left side of the receiver, possibly indicating a manufacturer such as ‘Gewehrfabrik’. The rifle features a fixed front sight, an adjustable rear sight, and includes a brass-tipped cleaning rod. This model is typically chambered in 11mm Mauser caliber.
Condition report:
Fair condition, consistent with age and military use. The wooden stock exhibits numerous scratches, dents, and areas of finish loss. Metal components show significant surface oxidation, pitting, and general finish loss, contributing to a dark, patinated appearance. The mechanism appears complete but functionality is untested. Bore condition unknown.
