Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1312:
Sold for: $75
Description
A U.S. Model 1873 socket bayonet, constructed from patinated steel or iron. It features a cylindrical socket designed to fit over a musket barrel, complete with a locking ring and a lug cutout. The socket transitions into a bent shank that connects to a long, triangular-section blade. The letters “U.S.” are impressed on the upper surface of the blade shank, and faint, partial numerals (possibly “177”) are visible near the bend.
Condition report:
The bayonet exhibits significant signs of age and wear, including an uneven grey patina, scattered pitting, and areas of reddish-brown surface rust and discoloration, particularly on the socket\'s interior and along the blade\'s edges and tip. The locking ring and lug show wear consistent with age and use.
