Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 133:
Sold for: $350
Description
A U.S. Nathan Starr Model 1812-1813 Cavalry Saber, comprising a broad, deeply curved steel blade with an iron D-guard hilt. The blade’s ricasso bears the visible markings “U.S. / P. & L. / N STARR,” indicating production by the Starr firm for the United States military. The grip features a ribbed wooden core, from which the original covering, likely leather or wire, is almost entirely missing. The saber is accompanied by its original metal scabbard.
Condition report:
The saber\'s blade and hilt exhibit extensive surface wear, heavy corrosion, and pitting. The steel scabbard is similarly heavily rusted, dented, and retains very little of its original finish. The grip\'s original covering is almost entirely absent. Overall poor to fair condition, consistent with significant age and use.
