Description

A British Martini-Henry military rifle, featuring a single-shot, falling-block mechanism. The rifle is constructed from dark blued steel components and a dark-stained wooden stock and forend. The metal butt plate is heavily patinated and secured with brass screws. Visible markings on the barrel and receiver include British proof marks such as a broad arrow over “WD” (War Department) and “BP” (British Proof). The buttstock is extensively marked with a clear date “1902” and several impressions in Devanagari script: “शे०प्र०” (Shev Prō, translating to ‘Service Proof’ or ‘End Proof’) and “बट नं. १०” (Baṭa naṁ. 10, translating to ‘Butt No. 10’). A circular Nepalese royal or state cartouche is also present, alongside a stamped or carved serial number “S.L.G. 890.” Additional faint markings like “N.S.” and “N.D.F.” are visible near the rear sight.

Condition report:

Fair antique condition. The wooden stock and forend exhibit significant wear, scratches, and dings consistent with age and military service. The metal components retain a worn, patinated finish with minor surface oxidation. All visible markings are present, though some are faint.
