Description
A Vietnam War Era US Army M1956 Canteen and Cover. This olive drab military-issue water canteen is enclosed within its matching canvas cover, characteristic of a mid-20th-century design. The cover features a buttoned flap closure securing an olive drab plastic screw cap, and two black-painted metal attachment clips on the reverse. The front of the cover is stenciled with “US” in black. The back of the cover bears further stenciled text, partially obscured by the clips, identifying it as a “COVER WATER CANTEEN, M-1956”, followed by military procurement codes “DSA-1-4241-64-E” and “FSN:8465 577-4926”, indicating a procurement date of 1964.
Condition report:
Good, used condition. The canvas cover exhibits minor wear and creasing consistent with its age and operational use. Some paint chipping is present on the black-painted metal attachment clips. The olive drab plastic screw cap is intact.
