Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1438:
Sold for: $160
Description
A group of three military-style scabbards, consistent with those used for 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabers. The lot includes three curved, tubular scabbards constructed from various metals. The topmost scabbard, made of darkened steel, features the alphanumeric marking “59. A. 6. 33.” on its throat. The middle scabbard is also steel, while the bottom scabbard is of patinated brass or bronze. All three include integral suspension bands (one with a visible ring, another with an attachment lug) and drags.
Condition report:
The scabbards are in fair to poor condition, exhibiting significant wear and environmental exposure consistent with age. The topmost steel scabbard shows surface wear and minor rust. The middle steel scabbard is heavily encrusted with reddish-brown rust and pitting. The bottom brass or bronze scabbard displays extensive green and brown oxidation and surface pitting.
