Lot 1453:
Imperial German WWI M1917 Ledermaske Gas Mask with Can
Sold for: $300
Description
An Imperial German WWI M1917 Ledermaske Gas Mask with its original carrying canister. The mask features a dark, heavily deteriorated facepiece, appearing to be made of cracked and hardened leather or rubberized fabric. It is fitted with two large, round metal eyepieces containing orange-tinted lenses and secured by frayed fabric straps. A metal filter element, visibly marked with the date “1918,” is attached below the facepiece. The separate cylindrical carrying canister is constructed from painted metal with a hinged lid and carry loops.
Condition report:
Both components show significant signs of age and wear. The mask exhibits extensive material degradation, with the facepiece being heavily cracked and hardened, and the fabric straps frayed. Both the mask\'s filter and the carrying canister suffer from widespread paint loss, surface rust, and pitting.
