Lot 1519:
Belgium World War I Victory Medal by P. Dubois
Sold for: $60
Description
A Belgium World War I Victory Medal, designed by P. Dubois. This bronze commemorative medal features on its obverse a detailed relief of a winged female figure, likely Victory, with outstretched arms, signed “P. DUBOIS” near the bottom right. The reverse is inscribed “LA GRANDE GUERRE POUR LA CIVILISATION” and “GROOTE OORLOG TOT DE BESCHAVING” (The Great War for Civilization in French and Dutch), surrounding a central wreath with a crest and multiple shields. The medal is suspended from its original rainbow-patterned textile ribbon, which is attached via a ring to a metal bar fitted with two pointed pins for attachment.
Condition report:
The bronze medal exhibits a consistent, aged patina with minor surface wear and light scratching. The ribbon shows some creasing and slight fraying along its edges, consistent with its age and good, used antique condition.
