Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1528:
Sold for: $400
Description
A single-shot percussion cap pistol, likely dating to the mid-19th century. The pistol features a dark wooden full stock with a ‘bag’ grip and a metal barrel, lock plate, and hammer. The barrel and lock mechanism are constructed from steel or iron. Brass or copper elements include the trigger guard, a forend barrel band, ramrod thimbles, and a prominent butt cap adorned with a quatrefoil-like star pattern. A faint numeral ‘2’ is visible on the lock plate, and a small, unclear proof mark, potentially a crown over a letter, is present on the barrel near the breech. The pistol appears structurally complete with its ramrod. The item is presented with a modern blue soft case.
Condition report:
The metal components, including the barrel and lock mechanism, exhibit significant surface corrosion and pitting. The wooden stock displays numerous handling marks and scratches, indicative of considerable age and use. The pistol appears structurally complete. The modern blue soft case shows minor wear.
