Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1539:
Sold for: $500
Description
An Antique French St. Etienne Model 1874 Service Revolver, dating to the late 19th-century. This military or service revolver is constructed from blued steel with natural wood grip panels, featuring a fixed front sight, prominent hammer spur, and a lanyard ring. Key markings include “Mre d’Armes / St Etienne” (Arms Factory of Saint-Étienne) on the left frame, with “Mle 1874” (Model 1874) and “S.1877” visible on the barrel. The serial number “N 13652” is consistently present on the frame, cylinder, and trigger guard, while a different number, “N 45652,” appears on the barrel, potentially indicating a parts mismatch. Various small proof and inspection marks are also visible across the metal components.
Condition report:
The revolver is in worn condition, exhibiting significant loss of its original blued finish, widespread surface oxidation, and minor pitting, particularly on the barrel and cylinder. The wooden grips remain intact with age-appropriate wear.
