A British Pattern 1853 Enfield socket bayonet, crafted from ferrous metal, likely steel or iron. The bayonet features a distinctive quadrangular blade tapering to a point, with fluted sides rather than sharpened edges, indicative of a thrusting weapon. It is designed with a cylindrical socket for attachment to a firearm, incorporating an L-shaped slot and a retaining ring secured by a screw. Visible stamped alphanumeric characters on the neck of the socket include “I. G.” horizontally above “B 233” oriented vertically.
Condition report:
The bayonet exhibits significant age and use, with an aged patina, surface wear, numerous scratches, and minor pitting consistent with historical military equipment. It appears structurally intact with no major damage.
