Lot 193:
A French Model 1886 Lebel Bayonet and Scabbard
Sold for: $65
Description
A French Model 1886 Lebel bayonet with its accompanying metal scabbard. The bayonet features a cruciform steel blade with a full-length fuller. The hilt comprises a ferrous metal crossguard with a prominent hooked quillon and a muzzle ring, secured to a contoured, light-colored metal grip, possibly aluminum or a coated alloy, attached by screws. Visible markings on the blade, near the crossguard, include a circled “G” and a circled “10.” The scabbard is constructed from ferrous metal.
Condition report:
Fair to poor condition. The blade exhibits significant surface wear, scratching, and some minor pitting. The ferrous metal crossguard and scabbard are heavily corroded with pervasive deep surface rust and pitting, consistent with considerable age and neglect.
