Lot 213:
Sold for: $350
Description
A Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk. III* SMLE bolt-action military rifle, primarily constructed with a multi-toned wooden stock and forend, steel components with a worn blued finish, and a brass butt plate featuring a hinged trapdoor. Visible markings on the receiver include “NO.I MK3” with an adjacent star-like symbol, “F.R. 53”, the serial number “75037” with an “X” below it, and “CAL ST AL VI.” (likely indicating Caliber, Standard, All, V.I., commonly .303 British). A stylized character resembling a Japanese arsenal mark is also present on the receiver, often associated with Australian Lithgow production or refurbishment. The adjustable rear sight features numerical graduations. The buttstock displays several circular stampings, including one resembling a broad arrow mark and others containing letters such as “ESD” or “SPF”, indicative of inspection or unit marks.
Condition report:
Good overall condition consistent with age and military service. The wooden stock and forend exhibit significant wear, scratches, dents, and discoloration, commensurate with a well-used vintage firearm. The steel components retain a worn blued finish with considerable loss, developing a consistent dark patina across surfaces. The brass butt plate exhibits surface wear, scratches, and patination. No obvious major structural damage is observed.
