Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 257:
Sold for: $65
Description
This lot comprises an assemblage of trench art, primarily fashioned from spent ammunition casings and components, predominantly brass-colored metal, explicitly dating its context to the Second World War. The central piece features a functional lighter mechanism integrated into a large brass-colored cartridge, flanked by two similar large cartridges arranged in a cross formation. These are supported by smaller cartridges mounted on two British coins, one clearly dated 1940 and bearing the legend “GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP” (George VI by the Grace of God, King of all Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India). Adjacent to this stands a separate, upright large cartridge with a pointed projectile tip, prominently inscribed “Anna Marie” in script and “GLOBAL WAR 1944” in block letters. A smaller, empty cartridge casing is also included.
Condition report:
All visible metal components exhibit heavy, consistent patination, surface wear, and some areas of verdigris, indicative of age and handling. The items appear structurally intact. The lighter mechanism is present and appears functional, though it has not been tested with fuel or flint.
