Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 259:
Sold for: $50
Description
An aged steel or iron military socket bayonet, featuring a straight, tapering blade with a distinct T-shaped cross-section. The bayonet is constructed with a cylindrical socket connected by an L-shaped neck, secured with a locking ring and visible screw mechanism. Stamped markings on the ricasso include a crown symbol, the letters “B M”, and the partially discernible numerical inscription “1821/T”, likely indicating a date and inspector or proof mark.
Condition report:
The item exhibits considerable surface wear, extensive pitting, and reddish-brown oxidation/patina across all metal surfaces, consistent with prolonged exposure and age. Despite the surface degradation, the bayonet appears structurally intact.
