Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 299:
Sold for: $250
Description
An inert Japanese WWII Type 89 Knee Mortar Round, a cylindrical, bottle-shaped metal object consistent with early to mid-20th century Japanese military ordnance. The main body is painted black, accented by a red band near the top. It features a tarnished brass or bronze fuzing mechanism at the apex, from which a frayed natural fiber rope is attached. The base is a detachable copper-colored section. Visible markings on the black body include yellow stenciled characters, a stamped inscription “七六中号” (76 Medium Model/Size) along with “Y1025”, and the number “7883”. The number “7883” is also present on the detachable base. The fuzing mechanism bears faint characters resembling “八式” (Type 8). The object is confirmed to be hollow.
Condition report:
The item exhibits considerable surface wear, paint loss, scratches, and tarnishing consistent with age and use. The natural fiber rope is frayed. Despite the cosmetic wear, the object appears structurally sound.
