This lot comprises a pair of vintage field binoculars supplied by Anciens Etablissements CLERMONT-HUET / Huet & Cie, Fournisseurs des MINISTÈRES de la GUERRE & de la MARINE (Suppliers to the Ministries of War & Marine), 11k, Rue du Temple, Paris. The binoculars feature black lacquered metal barrels with oculars displaying numerical adjustment scales, connected by a worn brown leather strap. They are housed within their original fitted brown leather carrying case, complete with a shoulder strap. The interior lid of the case is gold-stamped with the full supplier details.
Condition report:
The binoculars are in worn antique condition. The black lacquered finish on the barrels exhibits substantial loss, chipping, and scratching, revealing a silver-toned metal beneath. Areas of reddish-brown discoloration and green verdigris are present on the central hinge mechanism. The accompanying leather case is heavily worn, showing scuffs, scratches, and some surface cracking, but retains its structural integrity and functional metal clasp. The leather strap connecting the binoculars is worn. Overall, the ensemble shows clear signs of age and use consistent with its vintage.
