Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 331:
Sold for: $110
Description
A Japanese Officer’s Saber with an accompanying scabbard. The hilt, likely cast from a copper alloy such as brass or bronze, features a D-guard and a pommel sculpted as an animal head, possibly a lion. The grip has a stippled texture adorned with floral or foliate motifs. The single-edged, curved metal blade, appearing to be steel, shows significant scratching, dulling, and scattered dark pitting/corrosion marks, with minor damage to the tip. The accompanying metal scabbard, matching the blade’s curve, is heavily corroded. No visible text or discernible markings are present on any component.
Condition report:
Overall condition is poor to fair, indicating significant age and environmental exposure. The hilt exhibits extensive green and reddish-brown patination (verdigris and oxidized surface). The blade shows significant scratching, dulling, scattered dark pitting/corrosion marks, and minor damage to the tip. The metal scabbard is heavily corroded with widespread orange-brown surface rust and deterioration.
