Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 354:
Sold for: $550
Description
This antique flintlock pistol is characteristic of a Belgian Sea Service model, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It features a dark wood stock, iron/steel barrel and lock mechanism, and brass furniture. The lock mechanism, indicative of military or naval style firearms of the period, includes a hammer gripping a flint, a frizzen, and a pan. Brass elements comprise the trigger guard, butt cap with a lanyard ring, and fore-end tip. No legible manufacturer’s marks or specific text are discernible on any visible surface.
Condition report:
The wooden stock displays a dark, possibly varnished finish, with visible scratches, dents, and minor cracks, particularly near the butt and around the lock plate. The iron/steel barrel and lock components show significant dark brown patina, surface rust, and pitting consistent with age and use. Brass elements exhibit tarnishing and wear. The pistol appears structurally intact, reflecting considerable age and use.
