Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 373:
Sold for: $225
Description
A WWII Imperial Japanese Type 30 Arisaka bayonet with its accompanying wooden scabbard. The bayonet features a single-edged steel blade, a wooden grip secured by two rivets, a steel crossguard with a muzzle ring, and a bird’s head pommel. Visible on the ricasso are two stamped markings: an upper stylized character enclosed within a diamond, and a lower circular mark containing a symbol resembling an infinity sign or the number ’80’. The scabbard is constructed from a dark orange-brown stained wood, featuring two metal reinforcing bands. This piece is indicative of Japanese military issue from the early to mid-20th century period.
Condition report:
Overall condition is fair to poor. All steel components exhibit significant dark patination, heavy pitting, and surface corrosion. The blade displays extensive scratching and wear. The wooden grip and scabbard show considerable discoloration, nicks, scratches, and loss of finish, indicative of age and heavy use.
