Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 386:
Sold for: $55
Description
A collection of Italian Military 7.35x51mm Carcano ammunition, manufactured by Società Metallurgica Italiana (S.M.I.). The lot comprises 24 rounds. The ammunition is presented in two vintage military ammunition boxes, constructed from faded orange-colored cardboard with textile pull-tabs and secured by metal staples. One box bears visible Italian text identifying the contents as “N°3 CARICATORI DI CARTUCCE A PALLOTTOLA CAL. 7,35 PER ARMI MOD°38” (No. 3 Chargers of Bullet Cartridges Cal. 7.35 For Weapons Model 38), manufactured by “SOCIETÀ METALLURGICA ITALIANA STABILIMENTO DI CAMPO TIZZORO” (Italian Metallurgical Society, Campo Tizzoro Establishment), utilizing “POLVERE ALLA NITROCELLULOSA PURA” (Pure Nitrocellulose Powder), and bearing a lot number “1.098.004 / 1 080”. The exposed ammunition consists of brass-cased cartridges with copper-jacketed Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) projectiles, loaded onto metallic stripper clips. Two additional loose cartridges are included. Cartridge headstamps include “S.M.I.” and “940”, consistent with production around 1939-1940 for the Carcano Model 38 rifle.
Condition report:
The cardboard packaging is in poor to fair condition, showing significant wear, discoloration, staining, and minor tearing. The metal ammunition and clips display overall tarnishing, surface corrosion, and wear consistent with age, but appear structurally sound.
