Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 388:
Sold for: $225
Description
A World War I French M1916 ‘Le Vengeur’ type trench fighting knife, featuring a double-edged, spear-point steel blade with a fullered appearance near the tang. The blade’s ricasso is stamped vertically with the visible text “(S.G.CO)”. A simple, flat metal crossguard separates the blade from a contoured, possibly carved wooden handle. Accompanying the knife is a plain, dark patinated metal sheath with an integrated rectangular belt loop or attachment point.
Condition report:
Good antique condition consistent with age and field use. The blade, guard, and sheath exhibit significant surface wear, scratching, and a dark, oxidized patina. Minor pitting is present on the blade and guard. The wooden handle appears structurally sound with a rich, dark brown tone, showing minor nicks and surface wear.
