An original Civil War Model 1839 U.S. oval belt buckle with a ‘Puppy Paw’ reverse. The obverse features raised ‘US’ letters on a brass-colored metal surface. The reverse reveals a grey metal backing, likely lead or pewter, securing a central bent wire hook and two oval-shaped attachment studs, consistent with the ‘Puppy Paw’ designation.
Condition report:
The obverse exhibits a dull finish, numerous surface scratches, and areas of green patination, particularly within the letter recesses and along the rim.
