Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 402:
Sold for: $750
Description
A U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903 bolt-action rifle, featuring a polished wood stock and blued steel components, complete with an aged leather sling. The receiver is clearly marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903” along with serial number “898356,” which corresponds to a 1918 production date for the receiver. The barrel bears a “4-27” date stamp, indicating an April 1927 manufacture or re-barreling, and a flaming bomb proof. Other visible markings include “READY” and “OFF” on the bolt shroud and safety, respectively. Impressed into the stock are the initials “WJS,” numbers that appear to be “300” or “386,” and the word “RAFLE.”
Condition report:
The rifle is in overall used condition. The wood stock shows surface scratches and minor dents consistent with age and field use. The blued steel parts display areas of finish wear and light surface corrosion, also consistent with age and use. The rifle appears structurally intact.
