Lot 420:
Sold for: $525
Description
An antique U.S. military longarm firearm, identified as a U.S. Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle. This breech-loading, single-shot rifle features an external hammer and is constructed from dark stained hardwood and blued steel components. Key visible markings include “U.S. MODEL 1884” and serial number “353856” on the receiver, “US” on the butt plate, and “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” alongside an eagle/shield motif on the lock plate. Additional faint markings “V” and “P” are present on the barrel, and a cartouche (likely a proof or inspection stamp) is visible on the left side of the stock.
Condition report:
The rifle is in fair to good antique condition. It exhibits substantial wear to the bluing, with a dark patina present across all metal surfaces. Areas of surface oxidation and pitting are visible. The wooden stock shows numerous dents, scratches, and handling marks consistent with age and use, but retains its structural integrity.
