Description
This lot presents a three-piece ensemble comprising a military-style commemorative medal, a matching ribbon bar, and a simple wooden presentation box. The medal is a six-pointed star, crafted from a base metal, likely bronze or brass. Its central medallion features the “VR” royal monogram (Victoria Regina), encircled by a wreath, and is inscribed with the dates “1899” and “1900” below, all surmounted by an Imperial Crown and a suspension ring. Accompanying the medal is a rectangular ribbon bar with vertical stripes in red, yellow, and blue, fitted with a pin on the reverse. The items are presented in a plain, rectangular wooden box with a lift-off lid, which contains a circular cutout designed to hold the medal, and is lined internally with red fabric.
Condition report:
The medal exhibits significant dark patination, loss of fine detail, and surface wear consistent with age and handling. The ribbon bar shows some fading to its colors. The wooden presentation box displays general surface wear consistent with its age.
