Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 463:
Sold for: $110
Description
A WWI Austro-Hungarian M1917 Trench/Fighting Knife, accompanied by its scabbard. This fixed-blade knife features a plain, possibly spear-point steel blade. A simple metal crossguard separates the blade from the wooden handle, which is secured by three visible metal rivets. Faint, largely illegible stamped markings are visible on both sides of the blade near the guard. The accompanying sheath is primarily constructed of metal, with a distressed brown leather loop or strap attachment.
Condition report:
The ensemble is in poor, heavily aged, and corroded condition. The steel blade is heavily covered in deep pitting, surface rust, and scratches, obscuring any potential original finish or details. The metal crossguard is rusted. The wooden handle appears worn, darkened, and possibly chipped in areas. The metal sheath is corroded, and the leather attachment is distressed.
