Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 483:
Sold for: $300
Description
A Dutch Beaumont Model 1871/88 bolt-action rifle, dated 1873. This military firearm, consistent with late 19th-century production, is primarily constructed from wood and metal. The wooden stock, likely walnut, exhibits a rich, dark brown finish with visible grain. Metal components include a blued barrel and a patinated, greyish-metal receiver, bolt, and external magazine. Key visible markings include the prominent year “1873” on the receiver, along with the number “550” on both the receiver and bolt handle. Additional indistinct proof marks or serial numbers are present on the receiver, and a faint circular cartouche is visible on the buttstock.
Condition report:
Overall aged and used condition, reflective of its apparent period. The wooden stock exhibits handling wear, minor dents, and scratches. Metal components display significant age, surface corrosion, and some pitting across various parts. The blued finish on the barrel shows wear, and the receiver, bolt, and external magazine show patination consistent with age.
