Description

A U.S. Civil War Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, manufactured by Mansfield & Lamb. This antique military saber features a curved steel blade, a three-bar brass hilt, and a leather grip wrapped with brass wire. The ricasso is clearly stamped on one side with “MANSFIELD & LAMB” above “FORESTDALE R.I.” (Forestdale, Rhode Island), and on the opposite side with the initials “U.S.”, “C.B.W.”, and the date “1865”.

Condition report:

The blade exhibits significant surface pitting, oxidation, and overall patination consistent with age. The brass hilt displays a dark, aged patina. The leather grip shows wear, with some apparent minor losses, though the wire wrapping remains mostly intact. The saber is in well-used but structurally sound antique condition, typical of its mid-19th century period.
