Description

A U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag bolt-action rifle, manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1899. The receiver is clearly marked “U.S. MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 1899.” and bears the serial number “218018”. This military rifle features a wooden stock, blued or patinated steel components, a bayonet lug, and an adjustable rear sight. It is fitted with a worn black leather sling. Additional markings on the stock include “F 4 C” and “4 M.N.G.” (likely denoting Minnesota National Guard) near the buttplate, and a stylized “Milo Copo 1899” stamp on the right side of the buttstock.

Condition report:

The rifle is in antique, used condition, consistent with its age and military service. Metal components display considerable finish wear, surface oxidation, and scattered pitting, particularly on the receiver and barrel. The wooden stock exhibits numerous dents, scratches, and rub marks throughout, with some areas of loss to the original finish. The black leather sling is worn and aged. Despite cosmetic wear, the rifle appears structurally complete.
