Lot 547:
Sold for: $875
Description
A British Martini-Henry Enfield falling block rifle, primarily constructed from dark wood for the stock and fore-end, and various aged metals for the barrel, receiver, trigger guard, and other hardware. The left side of the receiver is clearly marked with a crown over “V.R” (Victoria Regina), “ENFIELD.”, and the year “1876,” along with an inspection mark, signifying its manufacture during Queen Victoria’s reign by the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield. It features an adjustable rear sight with visible range markings of “200” through “600,” a foresight, and a ramrod/cleaning rod positioned beneath the barrel. A well-worn, dark leather sling is attached. Based on market consensus, this rifle is typically chambered in .577/450 caliber.
Condition report:
The overall condition reflects its age and use, exhibiting significant surface wear, patination, some scattered surface rust or pitting on metal components, and numerous dents and scratches on the wooden elements, consistent with an antique firearm. The well-worn dark leather sling shows signs of age and use.
