Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 549:
Sold for: $325
Description
A Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1896/11 straight pull rifle. This bolt-action military rifle is primarily constructed from a dark, stained wooden stock and blued steel components. The design features a full-length stock, an external magazine, an adjustable ladder-type rear sight, and a front sight with an integrated bayonet lug. Visible markings on the receiver include the serial number “460947,” repeated twice, along with the inscription “P. 32” beneath one instance. Several indistinct smaller proof marks, such as “SP” or “3P” and an encircled character, are also present. The “P. 32” marking could potentially denote a production year or location, such as “Perugia 1932.”
Condition report:
Fair to good used condition. The rifle exhibits significant wear consistent with age and use. The wooden stock shows numerous scratches and dents. There is considerable loss of bluing on the metal parts, and areas of surface rust or pitting are present, particularly on the magazine plate and metal butt plate.
