Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 552:
Sold for: $600
Description
An antique Austrian Werndl-Holub Model 1867/77 Single Shot Rifle, featuring a wooden stock and blued or patinated steel/iron components. This vintage long gun, likely a military rifle, is characterized by its distinctive hinged breech-loading mechanism and a hammer-fired action, typical of mid-to-late 19th-century firearms. It is possibly a conversion from an earlier percussion system. Visible markings include “W.B. 1863” on the breech, indicating a manufacturing or conversion date, the partial number “842” on the lock plate, and faint letters that appear to be “VS” or “US” near the breech. A ramrod is present.
Condition report:
Good antique condition. The wooden stock exhibits significant wear consistent with age and use, including numerous dents, scratches, and areas of finish loss. The metal components show a dark, aged patina with widespread surface pitting. Mechanical function is untested and not guaranteed.
