Description
A WWI French 37mm Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon Shell, comprising a complete brass casing and a dark-finished, ovoid projectile. The projectile is adorned with two copper driving bands and features a brass collar visibly engraved with “L 281 16”. The base of the casing bears the inscribed markings “37-85”, “P.D.F.S. 15”, and the date “9.16” (September 1916), alongside a stylized manufacturer’s mark. “P.D.F.S.” translates to “Poudre De Fusil S,” indicating a type of French propellant. The item is presented both assembled and with the casing and projectile separated.
Condition report:
The item is in well-preserved, aged condition, exhibiting expected patina on the brass casing and some surface wear commensurate with its early 20th-century period. The markings are clear and legible.
