Description

A Swiss Vetterli Model 1869/71 Repeating Infantry Rifle, likely in 10.4x38mm Rimfire (.41 Swiss) caliber, featuring a bolt-action mechanism. The rifle is constructed with a light-to-medium toned wooden stock and blued steel components. It is equipped with an adjustable rear sight and a front blade sight. The barrel is secured to the stock by three barrel bands, and a cleaning rod/ramrod is housed beneath the barrel. The receiver is clearly marked with the serial number “61920” and bears the inscription “WAFFENFABRIK BERN 1920,” with faint additional markings visible below the date. The wooden forend features a checkered grip area and a circular cartouche containing a “V” or similar symbol. The buttstock exhibits a faint stamping of “II” over “17” or “VT,” and the buttplate tang is marked “9746 S.”

Condition report:

The rifle is in well-used condition, consistent with its age and historical service. There is considerable bluing loss across the metal surfaces, which also exhibit patination. The wooden stock shows numerous scratches, dents, and wear marks throughout. All components appear original to the period of manufacture and use.
