An M1895 U.S. Army Enlisted Forage Cap, identified for the 24th Infantry, dating to the Spanish-American War era. The cap is constructed from dark navy blue wool felt with a black leather visor and chinstrap. The chinstrap is secured by brass-toned buttons, each bearing an eagle motif. The interior reveals a worn brown leather sweatband and a dark fabric lining, which displays a faded printed manufacturer’s mark: an eagle and shield design above the legible text “OAK HALL CLOTHING” and “BOSTON.”
Condition report:
The cap exhibits considerable wear consistent with its age and use. The wool felt shows lint and minor abrasions. The leather components, including the visor and interior sweatband, display cracking and creasing. The manufacturer\'s mark in the lining is faded.
